Obituary

Harold (Sport) Lenzmeier

Harold "Sport" Lenzmeier, 72, Wahpeton, N.D., died Monday, Aug. 2, 1993, at St. Luke's Hospital, Fargo. The funeral will be Wednesday, Aug. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Vertin-Munson Wahpeton Funeral Home.

Visitation will be today (Tuesday) from 3-8 p.m. at the funeral home and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Harold was born Sept. 3, 1920, in Kranzberg, S.D., to John B. and Marie (Ruhr) Lenzmeier. Harold served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and married Hattie Wold on Feb. 2, 1945. They resided in the Wahpeton area. He was employed by Soltis Sheet Metal for 37 years and at 3M Company in Wahpeton for 10 years until his retirement in 1992.

He was an avid sportsman, was active in baseball, later softball. He received the McIntosh Award in 1969 for his involvement in area softball and was selected to the North Dakota Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame in 1976. He also enjoyed hunting and was secretary for the Buffalo Club for 21 years. Harold served on the Wahpeton Park Board and was a member of the Hafner-Miller-Ross American Legion Post 20 and the Wahpeton VFW Post 4324 and the Rugby Eagles Club.

Sport is survived by his wife, Hattie, Wahpeton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Georgia Lenmeier, Lewiston, Idaho; and Brian and Trudy Lenzmeier, Rugby, N.D.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Debbra and Richard Rehm, Dallas, Texas; Claudia (Dee) and Robert Comstock, Wahpeton; Julie Lenzmeier, Fargo; and Lori and Dan Miller, Wahpeton; 11 grandchildren; seven brothers, Carroll (Bill) New Bighton, Minn.; Dennis, Fargo; John, Minneapolis; Ralph, Fair Oaks, Calif.; Douglas, Bismarck; Robert (Bob), Plymouth, Minn.; and Terry, Gladstone, Mo.; six sisters, Leone (Mrs. Dennis) Medenwaldt, Puyallup, Wash.; Rosemary Bergman, Wahpeton; Andrea Lenzmeier, Crystal, Minn.; Nita (Mrs. Howard) Steen, Wahpeton; Kitty (Mrs. Roger) Olson, Coon Rapids, Minn.; and Ellyn (Mrs. Howard) Thompson, Des Moines, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Laverne (Bud) Lenzmeier.

Memorials are requested to be given to the Riveredge Hospice, Breckenridge, Minn., or the Roger Maris Cancer Center, Fargo, N.D.
