Obituary

Vernon Lester Pavek was born May 5, 1919, in Liberty Grove Township, rural Lidgerwood, ND, to Frank and Anna (Kotchian) Pavek. The family moved to St. Paul, MN in 1923 where he attended school thru the 7th grade. In 1931 the family moved back to Lidgerwood where he graduated in 1936. He joined the Montana National Guard and served from 1937 until 1938.

Vernon worked for the Midland National Bank, Billings and the Forsyth State Bank, Forsyth, Montana, and returned to Wahpeton where he worked in the Wahpeton National Bank until 1943. On May 30, 1942, he married Laurel Meyer in Fargo. In 1943 he started work with Loll Auto and Implement. The couple had moved to Fargo in 1972. Laurel was transferred to Fargo by Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. Vernon commuted to Wahpeton for seven years, continuing his position with Loll Auto & Implement until his retirement in 1979, after 38 years. Vernon had a career which was quite varied during his years with Loll Auto & Implement. This company had many interests over which Vernon, as office manager, had numerous responsibilities and took part in most management decisions.

He was a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church, Wahpeton, life member of the Wahpeton Eagles Club, life member of the American Philatelic Society. He was a memer of the Czech Genealogical Society. Also, he was a former member of the Elks Club and Odd Fellows. Vernon was the family historian. He had been a former delegate to the ND Democratic convention. Vernon wrote about 160 articles as a columnist for the Daily News newspaper.

He is survived by his wife, Laurel, Fargo; daughter, Diane (George) Clark, Fargo, ND; grandson, Andrew (Mandy) Kraus, Minneapolis, MN; 2 brothers, Lawrence 'Lorney' (Karol) Pavek, Fergus Falls, MN, Harvey Pavek, Sidney, Montana; his cousin, Helen Strege, Wahpeton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister-in-law, Ardis.
