Lyle H. Smith, 70

Lyle H. Smith, 70, Wahpeton, N.D., died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, at St. Catherine's Living Center, Wahpeton.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at United Church of Christ (Congregational), Wahpeton, with the Rev. Enno Limvere officiating. Burial will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.

There will be visitation Friday, Oct. 29, from 6-8p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton. There will also be visitation on Saturday one hour before the service at the church.

Lyle Harry Smith was born June 13, 1935, in rural Wahpeton, the sone of Ferdinand and Taletta (Buss) Smith. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural school at Mooreton School No. 1.

He married Shirley Lund on Oct. 11, 1958, at Dwight, N.D. They farmed until moving into Wahpeton in 1967.

Lyle worked for Northwest Sheet & Iron and Cenex in Whapeton until retiring in 1995.

Shirley died Feb. 28, 1991. Lyle continued to live in Wahpeton.

Lyle was a member of United Church of Christ (Congregational). He enjoyed collecting coins and collecting miniature tractors. He had a special place in his heart for his two granddaughters.

Lyle is survived by his son, Bryan (Patti) Smith, Fargo, N.D.; two granddaughters: Jennifer and Jaclyn Smith, Fargo; his brother and three sisters: Lester (Grace) Smith, rural Wahpeton, Lucylle (Mark) Schmitt, Breckenridge, Minn., Marlyn (Ethel) Smith, rural Wahpeton, Sharon Tetzloff, Wahpeton; and his sister-in-law, Joan Smith, Nampa, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Shirley: two brothers: Vernon and Louis Smith; and his two sisters: Audrey Roberts and Viola Dauer.
