Gertrude "Gertie" Strege

May 14, 1927 — February 14, 2025 Wahpeton

Gertrude “Gertie” Pauline Strege, 97, of Wahpeton, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025, at the Leach Home. Her funeral service will take place Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, beginning at 10 AM. Visitation will take place at 9:15 up until the time of the service. She will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton. The service will be live-streamed on the funeral home website.

Gertie was born on May 14, 1927, in Great Bend, ND to Ernest F. and Martha (Keller) Krause. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend. Gertie received her formal education in Great Bend and graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1945. She went on to attend North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton for two years. For the first four years of her career, she worked at the Richland County Courthouse for Albert Funfar; Register of Deeds.

On September 18, 1949, she married Stanley L. Strege at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton. The couple made their home in the Lidgerwood area and later returned to Wahpeton where Stanley worked for NDSCS. Stanley died on March 4, 1988, and Gertie continued to reside in their Wahpeton home.

Gertie was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Immanuel Choir, LWML, Sewing Circle, the Musical Arts Club and enjoyed helping at the Wahpeton Public Schools.

She is survived by her son, Arden D. Bishop-Strege (Robert Bishop); son-in-law, Craig Boutiette; and grandchildren, Kenny Boutiette, Kortny (Marty) Mackner, Kathleen (Adam) Cory, and Kevin Boutiette; great-grandchildren, Adessah Le Cory and Eli Adam Cory, Ethan Jensen Cory, and Mila Mackner; great-great-grandchild, Lenox Craig Wold-Cory; cousins, Christa Jarosch and family, Fred Jarosch and family; as well as many who called her friend.

Gertie is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her daughter, Carolyn Boutiette.

Memorials are preferred to CHI Health at Home - Hospice, Breckenridge.

The Garden of the Christus is located in the Memorial Gardens, which comprises the northern half of the cemetery.
