Doretha Schradieck

December 2, 1912 — May 2, 2010

Doretha Schradieck, 97, Wahpeton, ND, died Sunday May 2, 2010, at St. Francis Healthcare Campus, Breckenridge , MN . The Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, May 7, at Immanuel Lutheran Church , Wahpeton, with Rev. Morris W. Stephens Jr., officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5 PM to 8 PM with a 7 PM prayer service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton and one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.

Doretha was born December 2, 1912, the oldest of four girls, at Brandenburg Township , near Great Bend , ND , to Philip and Rose (Radke) Worner. She moved with her family to Summit Township and helped on the farm. She was united in marriage to Elmer Schradieck on April 5, 1936, at Immanuel Lutheran Church , Hankinson , ND . The couple lived on the Schradieck home farm until retiring in 1978, when they moved to Wahpeton. Elmer passed away December 7, 1992 and Doretha continued to live in her home visiting her daughter in Washington State during the winters.

Doretha was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church , Tyler , ND for 43 years, transferring her membership to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton. She enjoyed her flower garden and stayed active; gardening up to this last year. Her favorite pastime was playing “Rook” with her friends. Doretha was the consummate grandmother; always complementing and giving encouragement to her grandchildren.

Doretha is survived by her daughter Jean (James) Pallansch, Tacoma, WA; her daughter-in-law, Mary Schradick, rural Wahpeton; three granddaughters: Elizabeth (Derek) Abrahams, their children, Isabella and John, Fergus Falls, MN; Eleanor (Nathan) Engelby, and daughter, Leah, Mazomanie, WI., and Hannah Schradick, rural Wahpeton; two step-grandchildren: Joshua Pallansch, Minneapolis, MN; and Kelli Pallansch, San Francisco, CA; two sisters, LaVern Hoganson, Fargo and Marlyn Ehlers, Champaign, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer, her son Jerry, August 17, 2009 and her sister, Adah Dyer.
