Leona Ward
November 26, 1915 — October 29, 2010
Leona Hilda Dorthea Ward was born on November 26, 1915 at DeVillo Township, Tyler, ND, to Herman and Martha (Stoltenow) Gast. She grew up on the family farm in rural Wahpeton, ND and attended Wahpeton School Systems.
On February 15, 1937 she married Lester Ward at Breckenridge, MN. The couple farmed in Ibsen Township, rural Mooreton, ND and raised their family. Leona and Lester also owned the Wards Bar and Grill Business in Mooreton, ND. Lester passed away September 16, 1996 and Leona entered St. Catherine's Living Center in 2006.
Leona loved to bake and enjoyed making homemade bread and baked goods for family and friends. She also enjoyed her flower gardens, embroidering, listening to old time music, dancing, bingo and enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
She was a member of Mooreton Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid, Mooreton Legion Auxiliary, and Eagles Axillary.
She is survived by her 9 children; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren; daughter Beverly (Robert) Klosterman, Mooreton, ND and their children, Victor (Rynae) Klosterman; Dennis (Janet) Klosterman children, Chad, Jenna and Megan: Bruce (Sheila) Klosterman, children, Grant and Zachary; Neil Klosterman and Cara (Jay) Myers and children Travis and Abby; son Wayne (Janice) Ward, Mooreton, ND and their children, Pamela (Kerry) Lindeman, children Ashley, Jordan and Jon; Allen Ward and children Taylor and Codie; Sherri (Patrick) McFarren, children Austen and Nashten; Brenda (Troy) Klosterman, children Sydney, Madison and Logan; daughter Betty (Al) Elliot, Galesburg, ND and her children, Jerrod (Brenda) Milton, children McKenna and Cameran, and Joel (Amy) Milton, childk Logan; daughter Belva (Marlowe) Haverland, Abercrombie, ND and children, Shelly Kowalski, children Kelsey and Marissa; Darin (Tessi) Haverland, children Kendal and Cole; daughter Bonita (Vance) Gylland, Colfax, ND, children Karla and Troy Gylland; son William (Yvonne) Ward, Mooreton, ND and their children Aimee (Mike) Flaa, children Devin, Kennedy and Ryley; Adam (Emily) Ward, Alexis (Chris) Neppl, children Keagan and Kasen; daughter Cheryl Alpers, Eden Prairie, MN and her children Kris (Kelly) Alpers and Erica Alpers; son Wilfred Ward, Abercrombie, ND; son Willerd (Kari) Ward, Mooreton, ND and their children, Ryan, Brandon and Kaylee Ward; and Leona'a sister, Lucille Olson, Killdeer, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lester on September 16, 1996, her son-in-law, Kurt Alpers, three great-grandchildren, 6 brothers; Walter, Herman, Richard, Edward, Herbert and Leonard Gast and three sisters; Ella Matt, Myra Jenson and Helen Leland.
