Ardy Woodbury, 80, Rural Barney resident

Jan. 20, 1918 - Nov. 28, 1998

Ardy Woodbury, 80, rural Barney, N.D., died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at his farm residence. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the Evergreen Methodist Church, Wahpeton, N.D., with Rev. Peder Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Vertin-Munson Wahpeton Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. prayer service. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Ardy Lloyd Woodbury was born Jan. 20, 1918, in rural Abercrombie, N.D., to Byron and Matilda (Peterson) Woodbury. He attended rural school at Abercrombie and Ibsen Townships. On Oct. 7, 1941, he was united in marriage to Velma Bahr in Dwight, N.D. The couple lived in Ibsen Township, later moving to Antelope Township, northwest of Mooreton, where they had since lived. Ardy farmed and also sold seed corn for PAG and Cargill for many years.

Ardy served on the Antelope Township Board for 27 years and also served on the board for Galchutt Oil, Farmers Elevator of Mooreton, and was a member of the Mooreton Enterprise, Mooreton Community Club, Eagles, and was also a charter member of the Elks. He was a member of the Antelope United Methodist Church, rural Barney, where he was a past treasurer, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and was given the Outstanding Farmer award from the Wyndmere Crop Show.

He enjoyed people and stayed active. He fished and hunted, taking many trips with family and friends. He also bowled and loved to play cards, garden, and making his refrigerator pickles available to anyone who would like them. To his family, he was known as "Mr. Fixit", helping repair all types of things around the home and farm.

Ardy is survived by his wife, Velma, rural Barney; two sons and two daughters, Gary (JoAnn) Woodbury, Barney, Sharon (Duran) Moffet, Kerrville, Texas, Roland (Fran) Woodbury, Barney, Denise (Greg) Rogers, Davenport, N.D.; 12 grandchildren, Kara and Elane Woodbury, Corey and Amy Moffet, Alison Moffet Broussard, Dixie, Kristi and Bradley Woodbury, and Eric, Aaron, Taji and Zachery Rogers; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Woodbury; two brothers, Herbert (Ragna) Woodbury, Wahpeton, Robert Woodbury, Puyallup, Wash.; one sister, Marcia Clarke, Redmond, Wash.; and a half-sister, Eleanor Corliss, Rogers, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers, Chester and Charles; and a half-sister, Agnes Williams.
