Obituary
Robert Floyd Woodbury was born March 30, 1920, at rural Abercrombie, ND to Byron E. and Matilda (Peterson) Woodbury. He grew up and attended rural school at Abercrombie and later moving with his family to Mooreton, ND. In 1940, Robert enlisted in the US Navy and was assigned to a repair ship, the USS Altair for most of his duty. On October 8, 1943, he was united in marriage to Irene Score and eventually moved to Newport, R.I. After the war ended he was honorably discharged from the Navy and they moved back to Wahpeton. He worked in construction for several years and then went to work at the Wahpeton Indian School. When he retired, he spent the summer months working as a grounds keeper for Fairview Memorial Gardens. Robert and Irene were members of Bethel Lutheran Church until Irene retired and they moved to Puyallup. In Puyallup they transferred to Pilgrim Lutheran Church where Robert was a member until his passing.
Robert is survived by his son and daughter, Diane (Jeffrey) Spicer, Port St. Lucie, Florida and DuWayne (Denise) Woodbury, Payallup, WA; 5 grandchildren, Brad (Alicia) Ritter, Rachel (Sven) Martensson, Jennifer (Rick) Arapis, Brooke Woodbury, Melinda Woodbury; 5 great-grandchildren, Elijah Ritter, Joseph Ritter, Josephine Martensson, Jessica Arapis, Nicholas Arapis; and his sister, Marcia Clarke.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of over fifty years, Irene (Score) Woodbury, August 12, 1997; 2 brothers, Herbert and Ardy Woodbury; and his 2 sisters, Agnes Williams and Eleanor Corliss.
