Obituary
Alice Walton, NDSCS instructor for 44 years
Alice E. Walton, 98, Wahpeton, died Saturday, March 14, 1992 at St. Francis Medical Center, Breckenridge. The funeral will be Wednesday, March 18, 1992 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Jim Zotalis officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Wahpeton.
Visitation will be today (Tuesday) from 4-8 p.m. in the West Chapel of the Vertin-Munson Wahpeton Funeral Home. There will not be a prayer service. There will not be visitation Wednesday, but friends may register at the church one hour prior to the service.
Casketbearers will be Paul Beithon, Mark Beithon, LeRoy Chief, Terry Donnan, Greg Savoy, and Paul Langseth.
Alice Elizabeth Walton was born Nov. 11, 1893 in Carnduff, Sask., Canada, to William and Jessie Stephen (Cairna) Walton. She received her formal education in Wahpeton and graduated from the North Dakota State School of Science. She taught at NDSCS from 1918 until her retirement 44 years later. Walton Hall, a women's residence dorm, was named after her in September of 1969.
She was secretary of the NDSCS Alumni Association for many years and recently was honorary chairman of the "Remember the Main" fund drive and had made the first donation to the cause. She was remembered fondly by former students and "had a host of admiring former students from one end of this country to the other, and even overseas" an alumni letter said. Her father, William, was a pastor at Trinity Episcopal Church.
She entered the Wahpeton Health Care Center in September of 1990. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Wahpeton and the Order of the Easter Star, Wahpeton.
She is survived by a nephew and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mary Jane Catherine Walton Gill and Helen Walton, and one brother, John William Walton.
