Obituary

Cecil Wanek, 55, Breckenridge, Minn., formerly Doran, Minn., died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at St. Francis Home, Breckenridge.

The funeral service will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Breckenridge, with Father Leo Moenkedick officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.

Visitation will be Friday from 4-9 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge.

Cecil Wanek was born Sept. 29, 1944, to Frederick and Rose (Hestera) Wanek at Breckenridge. He grew up and attended school in Doran, Minn. At the age of 13, he moved with his mother to Breckenridge and continued his schooling in Breckenridge. Cecil graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1962. During and after his high school years he worked for Uncle Jim's Restaurant. He later began working for Howard Thompson Pontiac Garage in Breckenridge.

On Aug. 29, 1964, he was united in marriage to Judith Carlson at St. Arnold's Catholic Church in Milnor, N.D. They made their home in Breckenridge. He later worked for B&W Fleet Store in Wahpeton, and also at O'Keefe and Raftevold Carpet and Linoleum Store. In 1970, Cecil began installing carpet and linoleum independently, and in 1979 he also began grave digging in the local area. They lived in Wahpeton, Doran, and returned to Breckenridge after Cecil's health failed. Due to his ill health Cecil entered St. Francis Home in 1998.

Cecil was a member of the Wahpeton Eagles Club. He loved to spend time sitting in restaurants drinking coffee and visiting with friends. He thoroughly enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Judith, Breckenridge; a daughter, Trace (Greg) Hasbargen and their children, Samantha and Ashley, Doran; a son, Brian (Brenda) Wanek and children, Chelsea and Justin, Breckenridge; two brothers, Leonard (Muriel) Wanek, Breckenridge; John (Sue) Wanek, Breckenridge; five sisters, Elaine (Dallas) Rossow, Breckenridge; Lucille Korth, Breckenridge; Evelyn (Arlen) Spear, Fairmount, N.D.; Emily (Peter) Bruvold, Wahpeton; Celia (Gene) Rossow, Hankinson, N.D.; his mother-in-law, Viola Carlson, Wahpeton; and his brother-in-law, Dennis Carlson, Campbell, Minn.; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Edmond, and his sister, Cecily.
