Obituary

John Cimbura dies Sunday

Longtime Breckenridge resident, John Cimbura, 88, died Sunday, May 15, at St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge.

Cimbura was probably best known for his activity with many community affairs and organizations.

He was a charter member of the Breckenridge VFW and also a member of the Cooties, Breckenridge American Legion Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles 2749, Last Man's Club and World War I Barracks. He was also a member of Breckenridge Lutheran Church.

He was born May 9, 1895 to John and Anna Cimbura at Woodhall, N.D. He attended school there and at Brushvale, Minn. He farmed for a short time and then worked for the city of Breckenridge. Later he began employment with the Great Northern Railroad. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Minnie Bergquist Oct. 30, 1920 at Breckenridge. The couple lived in Breckenridge. He retired from the railroad in 1958. Mrs. Cimbura died in 1978.

The funeral will be at 2 Thursday at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, Rev. Eugene Floistad officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.

Visitation begins at 2 Wednesday and will continue through the evening with a prayer service at 7:30 at Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home Chapel, Breckenridge. There will also be visitation at the church for the hour prior to the service.

Survivors include two sons, Elroy and Ray, both Breckenridge; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, six brothers and a sister, Frank, James, Rudolph, Joe, Albert, Leo and Mrs. Rose Greene, all St. Paul.

He was preceded in death by a sister.
