Claude Russell Fleenor, 85, Wahpeton, N.D., died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.

Mr. Fleenor was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Fairmount, N.D., where he grew up and graduated from high school. He worked with his father, who was a veterinarian. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. He attended business college in Fargo. He worked for the Bison Hotel and later for the post office in Wahpeton. On Jan. 20, 1959, he married Harriet Faber in Alexandria, Va. They lived in Wahpeton, where he worked for Stoudt Motors, later Loberg Ford, for 29 years. He retired in 1983. They spent 18 winters in Marco Island, Fla.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Carol (William) Swinney, Phoenix; and a sister, Shirley (Richard) Alstatt, Breckenridge, Minn.

Visitation: Today from 10 to 11 in Evergreen United Methodist Church, Wahpeton.

Funeral: Today at 11 in the church.

Burial: Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.

Claude Russell Fleenor was born November 20, 1921 at Fairmount, ND, the son of Walter and Mabel (Hoffman) Fleenor. Claude grew up in Fairmount and graduated from Fairmount High School. He worked with his father was was the area veterinarian. He entered the US Army in February of 1943, as a medic during WWII. He participated in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre. After his honorable discharge in January of 1946, he attended Business College in Fargo, ND. He worked for the Bison Hotel during this time and later worked for the US Postal Department in Wahpeton. He was united in marriage to Harriet Faber on January 20, 1959 at Alexandria, Virginia. They lived in Wahpeton where Claude worked 29 years for Stoudt Motors, later Loberg Ford. He retired in 1983; the couple wintered for 18 years in Marco Island, Florida.

Claude was a member of the Wahpeton VFW and American Legion, and was active in the Legion's baseball program. He enjoyed following sports, especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

Claude is survived by his wife, Harriet Fleenor, Wahpeton; his daughter, Carol (William) Swinney, Phoenix, Arizona; and his sister, Shirley (Richard) Allstatt, Breckenridge, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter; his mother, Mabel; and his step-mother, Edith.
