Lilas McCullough

Lilas Leone McCullough, 94, a resident of Pioneer Point in Fergus Falls, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at her home under the care of Lakeland Hospice.

She was born October 20, 1913, in Hettinger, North Dakota, the daughter of Elmer and Ebba (Berg) Hokenson. She graduated from Hettinger High School in 1931, and then attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton for two years, studying journalism, printing and business. In 1933 she started working at the North Dakota State Capital in Bismarck.

On September 1, 1935, she married Kenneth McCullough in Britton, South Dakota. After her marriage she worked at Jamestown Forestry Service and later at Jamieson Brokerage in Fargo, ND. They lived in Fargo for 31 years. When Kenneth retired in 1972 they moved to Otter Tail Lake, and she moved to Fergus Falls in September of 1990.

Lilas was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Kenneth McCullough of Otter Tail Lake, who passed away January 29, 1982; her parents. Elmer and Ebba Hokenson of Chisago City, MN; her brothers; Harley Hokenson of Oakland, CA, and Lynn Hokenson of Springfield, OH; and three sisters: Margaret Brown of Lake Berreyesa, CA, Marion Wormley of Quakertown, PA, and Evelyn Junck of Fergus Falls.

Survivors include her daughter, Kaye (James) Halvorson of Tahoe City, CA; her son, James (Marlene) McCullough of Clearwater Beach, FL; four grandchildren: David (Dana) Halvorson of Redwood City, CA, Kari (Kevin) Marcinkowski of Dunedin, FL, Kristin (Gregory) Gingeleski of Tampa, FL, and Kelsey (Aaron) Roncaglia of Lakewood, CO; six great-grandchildren: Sara and Garrett Halvorson of Redwood City, CA, Dane and Cole Gingeleski of Tampa, FL, and Naomi and Ethan Roncaglia of Lakewood, CO; three brothers: Richard (LaVerne) Hokenson, of Houston, TX, Odean (Myrtle) Hokenson of LeSueur, MN, and Rodney (Helen) Hokenson of Adrian, MI; and a sister, Helen (Bill) Watkins of Fergus Falls, MN.

Service: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.

Clergy: Reverend Saul Stensvaag.

Interment: Fairview Cemetery in Wahpeton, North Dakota.

Funeral Home: Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls.

Memorials are preferred to Lakeland Hospice and First Lutheran Church.
