Obituary

Marvin Ervin Manock was born April 10, 1934, the son of Loren and Elsie (Krause) Manock at Fairmount, ND. He grew up and attended rural school. He worked on the family farm, and was united in marriage to Carol Bakken on April 1, 1956, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton, by Rev. P.A. Gisvold. Marvin served in the US Army from 1957 to 1959 and was stationed in Korea. He was honorably discharged. The couple then made their home in Wahpeton. He worked at Wahpeton Standard and Krebs Motors. He later started his career in meat cutting and butchering at Thulen's Meat Market, Breckenridge and National Foods, Wahpeton. He purchased the Great Bend Lockers in Great Bend, ND, which he operated for many years. He sold the business to his son, Steve, and has continued working with him.

Marvin was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Eagles, Wahpeton VFW, and the Great Bend Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was involved in the Red River Area Sportsman's Club, serving as past president and was named "Sportsman of the Year" by the club in 1994. Marvin enjoyed people, and even when his health deteriorated, he still kept his sense of humor and his contagious chuckle.

Marvin is survived by his wife Carol of 52 years, Wahpeton; his three sons, Steven (Lisa) Manock, Great Bend, ND, Bradley (Mary) Manock, Horace, ND, Craig (Stephanie) Manock, West Fargo, ND; eight grandchildren, Mindy (Donny) Tayer, Sarah (Justin) Erickson, Derrick and Allie Manock, Ian Manock, Brennan, Brianna, Val Luick, and was anxiously awaiting his first great-grandchild to be born in February; his twin brother, Melvin (Darlene) Manock, Fairmount; his 3 sisters, Elaine Hubrig, Fairmount, Alice (Charles) Buchholz, El Reno, OK, Mary (Robert) Smith, Wahpeton; his sister-in-law, Blanch Manock, Wahpeton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Nathan, George and Lloyd Manock; his sisters, Lucille Miranowski and Agnes who died in birth; and his half-brother, Arthur Manock and his half-sister, Viola Miles.
