Obituary

Francis "Bud" Medley, 91, Fargo, ND, formerly of Wahpeton, ND passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Sanford Palliative Care, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be on Thursday, June 14, at 1:00 PM at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton with Pastor Jenny Hallenbeck officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Arrangements are entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.

Francis was born on May 9, 1921 in Milbank, SD to Edwin and Frances (Lambrechts) Medley. He grew up and attended school in the Twin Brooks, SD area. The family moved to Woonsocket, SD where Francis "Bud" followed his father into the railroad business which he did throughout his life. In 1942, he enlisted into the US Navy and served on the USS Lexington in the Pacific during WWII.

Bud was united in marriage to Dorothy Margaret May in Pipestone, MN on December 9, 1946. They lived in Woonsocket until 1963 when they moved to Britton, SD. The family lived in Wheaton, MN and Milbank, SD before moving to Wahpeton in 1970. Dorothy preceded him in death on May 8, 2003. Bud entered the Waterford in Fargo in 2004.

Bud enjoyed Wii bowling, going to movies, walking, going out to eat, and listening to baseball. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and always loved being with his family. One of Bud's biggest events in his later years was going on the WWII Honor Flight in September of 2007.

Bud is survived by his children, Diana (Robert) Tang, Sanibel, FL, Richard Medley, Fargo, ND, Sandy (Warren) Griggs, Moorhead, MN; five grandchildren, Nichelle (Rick) Kennedy, Erin (Derek) Mah, Shannon Griggs, Ryan (Divya) Griggs, Mallory (Brady) Dickelman; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Marlow Medley, Mitchell, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy, his granddaughter, Megan Griggs, one brother, and three sisters.
