Arthur A. Meyer

Wahpeton

Arthur Addison Meyer, 91, Wahpeton, died June 17, 1988 at the Wahpeton Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Wahpeton, with Rev. Marvin Schultz officiating. Interment is at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Monday at the Vertin-Munson Wahpeton, N.D. Funeral Home. There is also visitation Tuesday for one hour prior to service at the church.

Mr. Meyer was born May 3, 1897 in Marshall County, S.D. to Addison Henry and Elizabeth (Schlagel) Meyer. He was raised and attended school in Victor Township, S.D. In World War I he served in the 164st Balloon Brigade at Camp Funston, Kansas. On March 18, 1920 he was united in marriage to Alta Evada Purdy in Veblen, S.D. The couple farmed in South Dakota until moving to Wahpeton in 1937. They continued farming and raised purebred cattle. In World War II he worked in Forth Worth, Texas for Consolidated Vulte Aircraft Corp. After the war, he continued farming and worked for Dakota Monument Co., Fargo, until 1982. Mrs. Meyer died Jan. 22, 1980. He moved into the Wahpeton Health Care Center in 1987. Mr. Meyer was an avid musician and a member of a band playing in eastern South Dakota; he played violin and drums. He also raised purebred Dalmatians.

He is served by three daughters, Marine Struck, Fergus Falls; Gracine Swenson, Wahpeton; Laurel (Mrs. Vernon) Pavek, Fargo; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alta, two brothers, Alvin and Clarence, and one sister, Sylvia.
